Volunteer Tours have been designed for the responsible traveler that is keen to take on a rewarding challenge and support ongoing community programs, but who may be short of time or keen to tag onto another experience.
To enjoy Volunteering in Southern Nyanza to its fullest, you should arrive with an open mind, be willing to adapt, and use your initiative. All Volunteers to East Africa is an organization that runs its own projects and lets you deal direct with projects to save administration costs to you the volunteer and to ensure that all funds go directly to the projects you are trying to support. The volunteer work continues to impact positively on community services by helping where needed.
AIDS is killing so many Kenyan adults in their 20-45 years that the extended family structure that constituted the character of African culture is breaking down. After attending so many burial ceremonies, the old tradition where the old people were secure in the knowledge that they would end their days peacefully in the supportive family community is no longer tenable. Today, they find themselves overwhelmed as they are the ones find themselves taking care of their sick and dying children, and for orphaned grandchildren. Following the death of many younger family members, many old people feel completely isolated, and end their days alone in wretched poverty:
We target the following:-
You can spend part of your time doing volunteer work. If you've left college and is contemplating on what to do next, have some time out in Western Kenya and think about your next route in life. Work within our 7 departments; and find out what your talents are and what you enjoy.
Skilled Workers:-
We encourage you to participate in voluntary work and stay a minimum of 2 weeks. The duration we propose does not require you to resign from your work and take considerable amounts of time away from work and your family members. We appeal for voluntary work on the following areas; Health, Education, Evangelism, Communications, Resource Mobilization, Community Development, Relief and Welfare it's a certain that we can link your skill with helping the needy in the developing world. If you have always wanted to help the needy this is the time.
Retirees:-
If lack of time had been the limiting factor when you were in employment but had always wanted to extend a helping hand to the needy, then this is the time to do your bit to fight against poverty in Western Kenya. You likely have the most experience than any other persons, you have the necessary skills and knowledge, you have thoughts and ideas and you have time. Many retired have the idea that retirement is the end. We say no for this could well be the time to help other people after years of experience. Let us know areas where you can make a difference to less fortunate members of our society.
Sports:-
It is a known fact that despite the inferior facilities in our rural areas, Africa still produces some of the most talented sportsmen and women. Through volunteer work, we open a window of opportunity for the young talented athletes, footballers, netballers etc. We allow these developing links with primary and high schools to give out their talents. We welcome sponsors, to come up with new ideas as to how we can tap these talents by running diverse sporting activities, football clubs and tournament.
Why we thought of these programs:-
Apart from finding an overseas trip very rewarding, there are several other achievements you would get out of these programs such as greater independence, skills, confidence, and cultural awareness e.t.c. You will become more independent as a result of being in a foreign land and also make new friends. After spending a given period of time in Kenya you will have experienced a different culture. You will also become more aware of your skills and what gives you a sense of personal satisfaction and reward; this may assist you in your future choice of career.
Give you a new perspective on the world and provide you with many memories that you'll never forget. You'll find yourself working with people who live in poverty and confronted by hunger, and disease. You'll gain the satisfaction of knowing that you have had a positive impact on people and children less fortunate than you are. The opportunity to work for a worthy cause.
During your time in Western Kenya, you would have to develop your team working and leadership skills. You will become more instinctive about how to travel safely and responsibly. It will increase your environmental, economic and social awareness, particularly as it impacts on enterprise and business. You will acquire better local and foreign language skills. You may have the opportunity to develop your fundraising skills.
You will become more thoughtful about financial planning and how to use your money. You'll become a more resourceful individual.
Our Economic Responsibility.
The volunteer work program is an indigenous organization which is the reason why we have put more emphasis on this kind of tours. Once we develop stable framework, the overseas volunteer work will get the opportunity to visit the communities. We pride ourselves as an organization that arranges trips and at the same time supports the local community in the sense of employment and empowerment.
Our volunteers live at the village level or camp at the local schools. The food which the volunteers use come from their own pockets and maybe cook for themselves or hire local cook at a low rate. We are also thinking to in the near future we will employ and train the orphans as members of staff to help manage the volunteer program which we intend to enlarge.
Environmental Responsibility:-
In everything we do, we try hard to look on ways to conserve the environment, reduce wastage of resources and reduce expenditure. One way of us tackling all these is to use local transporters whose areas we visit or carry out our volunteer work rather than source for transport elsewhere. Where possible we even use public transport like and bicycles. The main aim of this is to plough back to the community.
We run a small agro based project which help the local people feed the orphans and the remaining can be sold to raise money for other domestic uses.
Social Responsibility:-
We provide every visitor or volunteer with a comprehensive information which gives a picture or the history of the project. Whenever our volunteers go in the field, they will be accompanied by a member of staff who also acts as translators
Our coordinator gives advice where to go and when to go concerning every trip to the community and any tourist area they desire to visit.
As a local organization we ensure that all funds go directly to the running and improvement of the projects through project funding, building and upgrading the necessary facilities like schools, hospitals and creating sustainable tourism related community projects.
Our camp sites allow you to reach out to less privileged communities and really make a difference. You will work alongside the local community on school projects and help improve the lives of the local people with an emphasis on the local school children.
